Air Quality and Public Health

We monitor air quality to protect and inform the community

We currently use diffusion tubes to monitor NO2 at 29 strategically placed locations across the borough. They are distributed on a monthly basis and returned to a laboratory for analysis.

We currently have an automatic road side air quality monitor in Hatfield that monitors the pollutant PM2.5.

We are part of the Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire Air Pollution Monitoring Network and our monitoring data can be found on the Hertfordshire & Bedfordshire Air Quality website.

The air quality in the Borough of Welwyn and Hatfield is currently good and we are working hard to try and maintain this.

For more information on the work we do please have a look at the following reports:

*please note that the data in Table (A3) in the 2018 Air Quality Progress Report has been changed (November 2018). The original data submitted into this table was not formatted correctly. The amended progress report has been sent to DEFRA. The original copy of the progress report is available at the council offices. This amendment has no affect on the air quality results at receptor locations.
