Terminating your Garage Tenancy

If you wish to terminate your garage tenancy, you are required to give the Garages Team at Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council one weeks written notice by letter or by email.

You can give notice by email or by sending a letter to The Garages Team.

Please note:

  • Your garage tenancy will be terminated once we have received the garage keys back from you, on the nearest Sunday after your notice has expired.
  • You will be liable for the rent on the garage until we have terminated your tenancy.
  • The garage must be cleared of all items and left swept, clean, empty, secure, ready for re-letting. Unwanted items must be disposed of and not left on the garage forecourt or within the garage area.
  • If we have to remove any items that have been left in the garage, we will charge you a minimum of £150.00 + VAT for the removal of any items left behind.
  • You are required to bring all the keys to the garage to the Campus council office in Welwyn Garden City. Please leave all padlocks on the garage and bring the keys to the locks with the door keys.
  • When you bring the keys back you will be required to complete a garage tenancy termination form, which is available from reception, and you will be given a receipt for the keys you hand back.
  • If you are unable to bring the keys back in person, and do not have anyone else to bring them back for you, please send the keys to the Garages Team by recorded delivery to ensure you have proof of postage. If you send the garage keys by first or second class post, and they get lost, we will charge you our costs for gaining entry to the garage and changing the locks.
