The Welwyn Hatfield Self-build and Custom Housebuilding Register

The Council is required to keep a register of individuals and associations of individuals who are seeking to acquire land in Welwyn Hatfield for their own self-build or custom housebuilding project. The register helps the Council assess the demand for serviced plots of land within the borough and going forward, to contact interested parties on the register if suitable land becomes available.

Eligibility

From 31st October 2018, each individual and every member of an association must:

  • be aged 18 or over;
  • be a British citizen, a national of an EEA State other than the United Kingdom, or a national of Switzerland;
  • be seeking, either alone or with others, to acquire a serviced plot of land in the authority's area to build their own self-build or custom housebuilding project; and
  • have paid any fee required by the Council to join or remain on the register.

Additional local eligibility conditions, (a local connection test and a financial resources statement), also apply.

The Register

From 31st October 2018, the register will split into two parts:

  • Part 1: For Individuals and Associations who pay the appropriate fee and meet all the eligibility criteria including the local connection test; and

  • Part 2: For Individuals and Associations who pay the appropriate fee and meet all the eligibility criteria except the local connection test.
