A variety of workshops, courses and taster sessions are available in the beautiful setting of Mill Green on subjects as diverse as wood turning, photography, quilting, bee keeping and more.

They are all friendly, practical and taught by experts. A programme of FREE craft demonstrations is run on Sundays and some Bank Holiday Mondays throughout the summer months to coincide with the serving of Cream Teas.

Woodturning Taster Day

10am to 4:30pm

This hands-on workshop starts at 10 am and will finish around 4:30pm. You will need to bring a packed lunch along but hot and cold drinks will be provided throughout the day.

You will be shown how to use a lathe and provided all the materials you need to produce some wonderful items under the supervision of our expert course tutor.

Spindle Turning - Entry Level

9.30am to 4pm

 

 This makes a great follow on course from the practical skills learned on the Woodturning Taster Day, this class is aimed at those who already have the equipment and are using their own lathe at home. Spindle turning skills opens up more applications to make a diverse range of turned objects. It is the forerunner to bowl turning.

Workshops are run with only two learners at a time and offer plenty of individual support and tuition.

Bowl Turning

 This course is intended to build on the skills developed in the Spindle Turning course, as bowl turning is the next natural progression forward in wood turning. At the end of both courses you will be able to practice making many different types of projects and thoroughly enjoy this new craft.

Lino Cut Art Classes

Festive Patchwork Workshop

This craft has a long tradition of up-cycling old shirts and dresses into heirloom pieces.  In this workshop you will make a scented mug rug in the Log Cabin Design using vintage fabrics and lavender.

Willow Working

Willow Plant Support Workshop

Create some interest and height in your borders - a willow wigwam will support sweet peas or clematis. Suitable for beginners, you will learn simple and useful techniques to make a useful structure for your garden. Wigwam - approx 5′ tall. To allow for preparation of materials please book by 3rd April. Bring a packed lunch and some sharp secateurs, if you have them. Refreshment's will be provided as well as all of the materials.

Dragonfly

Learn to make a beautiful willow dragonfly for you wall or garden in this beginners willow workshop.  Hazel Godfrey will teach you techniques for a basic weave, spiral plait, and random weave.  To allow for preparation of materials please book by 15th May.

Jewellery Making

Introduction to Jewellery Making

On this beginner's introduction to jewellery making workshop you will:

  • Learn to use beading wire and beads to make bracelets and necklaces

  • Be taught about the different types of beads and components used

  • Discover which tools you need to get started, and when and how to use them

  • Learn some design tips which you can use in the future in your own bracelet and necklace designs

  • Learn where to buy materials and equipment

What is included:

  • All materials and beads needed and use of tools on the day

  • Two pieces of jewellery which you will make and take home at no additional charge (usually one necklace and one bracelet)

  • An information pack to take home, detailing the basic techniques, materials guide, list of recommended suppliers and information sources

Semi Precious Stones Jewellery Making Workshop

Learn from tutor Kathryn Parratt how to use fine 'Tiger tail' jewellery wire and crimps with pearls, semi precious stones and Swarovski crystals to make a beautiful 'illusion' style necklace.  Find out about different beads and components, tools needed and how to use them, and design tips.
