Nominating an asset of community value
Who can nominate:
- Parish Councils
- Unincorporated groups ( who include at least 21 people on the local electoral roll, do not share profit with members, and are for the benefit of the local area)
- Neighbourhood forums (only one forum per area)
- Community interest groups (must be either a charity, a community interest company, a company limited by guarantee that does not share profit with its members, or an industrial and provident society which does not share profit with its members)
How to nominate
Use the link below to complete a nomination request form and send it back to us.
The form must include:
- a description of the nominated asset including its boundaries (including plans and photographs)
- the names of current occupants of the asset and anyone with a freehold or leasehold interest
- why it should be identified as an asset of community value
- evidence you are eligible to make the nomination.
Nominate an asset of community value
If the application is successful:
- the owner can only dispose of the asset a community interest group (unless the community have had at least six months to put together a bid first)
- the owner does not have to sell and can appeal against our decision to list the asset
- owners are entitled to claim compensation if the listing of an asset results in a loss
- the compensation is determined and paid by the Council (owners have a right of appeal).
