Updates about changes to business rates and grants as a result of COVID-19 (coronavirus).

Business rates

Further to the 2020/21 budget announcement, the 100% business rate discount will now apply to all eligible businesses in the retail, hospitality and leisure sectors, for 12 months.

The discount for pubs with a rateable value below £100,000 in England will be increased from £1,000 to £5,000 for one year from 1 April 2020 and a £1,500 business rates discount for office space used by local newspapers in England will be extended for an additional five years until 31 March 2025.

Due to the timing of the budget announcement, the 2020/21 business rate bills have already been sent and will be reissued to eligible businesses shortly with this discount applied.

You do not need to contact us, but if you have any questions, please email c.tax@welhat.gov.uk.

The government has announced various changes to business grants. The details of these changes can be viewed on One Welwyn Hatfield.

We are currently working through the government guidance around business grants, and will be writing to businesses who are eligible for the grant soon.
