Steps to making the Neighbourhood Plan
The whole of the geographic area of the Parish of Northaw and Cuffley was designated as the Neighbourhood Plan Area in Autumn 2014. Northaw and Cuffley Parish Council was the relevant body that applied for designation.

In August/September 2022, we carried out a consultation on the submission version of the Neighbourhood Plan and supporting documents in accordance with Regulation 16 of The Neighbourhood Plan (General) Regulations 2012 (As Amended).
Examination Process
An independent examiner, Mr Andrew Ashcroft, was appointed to examine the Neighbourhood Plan.

During the examination, the examiner issued a clarification note.
Following the examination, the examiner issued his final report. As the Local Planning Authority we then had to decide what action to take in response to each of the examiner's recommendations, including whether to progress the plan to a referendum.
At the meeting on 16 February 2023, the Cabinet Planning and Parking Panel agreed that subject to certain modifications, the Northaw and Cuffley Neighbourhood Plan should proceed to a referendum. This was approved by Cabinet on 7 March 2023 and Full Council on 15 March 2023.
The referendum was held on 4 May 2023. The result of the referendum was a majority ‘yes’ vote in favour of making the Northaw and Cuffley Neighbourhood Plan.
The Neighbourhood Plan has now been made and forms part of the Development Plan, which means that we will now use the Northaw and Cuffley Neighbourhood Plan to help it decide on planning applications in Northaw and Cuffley.
