Fly-tipping is irresponsible, dangerous and expensive to clear up.

We take reports of fly-tipping very seriously and will prosecute those caught fly-tipping waste.

Preventing fly-tipping

We're part of the Hertfordshire Fly Tipping Group (FTG) and the Let's SCRAP Fly Tipping Campaign. The issue of fly tipping in the County is being tackled by the FTG which is a multi-agency task force including Hertfordshire's 11 local authorities as well as the Office of the Police & Crime Commissioner, the Hertfordshire Constabulary, Hertfordshire Fire & Rescue, the National Farmers Union, the Environment Agency and Keep Britain Tidy.

Everyone has a legal 'duty of care' to ensure your household or business waste is disposed of correctly.

You can be prosecuted even if your waste is fly-tipped by someone else on your behalf.

If it's your waste, it's your responsibility.

How you can help SCRAP fly-tipping

How to get rid of your rubbish

Waste carriers

Check that the person you employ to remove rubbish from your home or place of business has been licensed to carry waste by the Environment Agency.

If you employ a builder to work on your home check they are licensed to carry waste or that they use a licensed waste carrier to remove the waste.

You can check here or call 03708 506506.

Excess recycling and waste

You can use one of Hertfordshire's Household Waste Recycling Centres for recycling and larger household items, please check the opening times before setting off. Find your nearest centre on the WasteAware website.

Extra household recycling facilities (recycling banks) are available around the borough.

Find your nearest recycling bank.

Removing large items (bulky waste)

Serco, our contractor, offers a separate bulky household waste collection service on our behalf, which you can use to dispose of household items you cannot fit in your bin.
