Trees maintained by the council

Tree removal

Sometimes it is necessary to remove trees that are dead, dying or have significant structural weaknesses.

When the trees are felled, stumps are initially left in-situ at about a metre high so they are clearly visible. The stumps are then ground out and the area is re soiled and seeded as necessary.

More information about trees due to be removed can be found at our Tree programmed tree removal  page.

Network rail tree removal

Network Rail is currently undertaking tree works throughout the borough to clear trees and vegetation within 6.5m of the train tracks and also large trees within falling distance of their land. This is a national standard of vegetation works, which is carried out throughout the country along the rail network for safety reasons.

As a Statutory Undertaker, Network Rail do not require formal consent and the council is unable to intervene or stop the works. We have been in contact with the contractor carrying out the works to ensure only the specific safety works are undertaken and that as much vegetation is retained where possible within the specification criteria.

Residents in close proximity of the works will receive a letter from Network Rail informing them of the works and when they are likely to take place. If there are any issues or concerns they should be addressed to Network Rail directly on the following telephone number 03457 114141.

More information is also available on the Network Rail website
