Empty Homes

2.1 The council’s definition of an empty home for the purpose of this policy, means homes that have been empty for at least 6 months, but with the main focus on longer-term empty homes that have been empty for two years or more.

2.2 These two-year empty homes have not come back into use with the normal operation of the housing market and if they present a problem, they are likely to need support or intervention. However, we maintain an interest and oversight of all empty properties in the district, including second homes and furnished empty homes.
