Resident Involvement

Neighbourhood Champions

Our Neighbourhood Champions are community spirited residents who want to make a difference to where they live.

They work alongside us to help make their neighbourhoods cleaner, greener and friendlier.

Who can be a Neighbourhood Champion?

To be a Neighbourhood Champion you must:

  • be council tenant or leaseholder
  • be over 18 years old
  • have no outstanding tenancy breaches
  • be willing to work in partnership with our Housing Estates team
  • want to support your local area

What does a Neighbourhood Champion do?

By being a Neighbourhood Champion, you can tell us what matters most to you and your community.

Your ‘neighbourhood’ could be your street, your estate or just a small part of it. It’s whatever you feel comfortable with.

Things a Neighbourhood Champion might do include:

  • report issues like graffiti, fly-tipping and ASB
  • check communal areas
  • feedback on our contractors
  • take part in estate walkabouts
  • suggest a Nicer Neighbourhoods project
  • promote our involvement opportunities and activities

Neighbourhood Champions should not:

  • report individual issues or repairs for their neighbours
  • enter anyone else’s home or garden without permission
  • attempt to resolve conflicts
  • represent neighbours in their dealings with WHBC
  • act as an official of WHBC

Commitment

Being a Neighbourhood Champion is a flexible role that fits in with your life. You decide how involved you want to be - it can be as little or as much as you like.

However you choose to be involved, you'll be connecting with the community, inspiring others and helping us to maintain your area, ensuring it’s a place where people are proud to live.
