It is every dog owner's responsibility to clean up after their dog. If left in public areas it is a potential health risk. It is no defence to claim ignorance of the dog's actions.

It is an offence for any person in charge of a dog to allow it to foul in a public place and not clean it up (The Dog (Fouling of Land) Act 1996 and The Clean Neighbourhood Environment Act 2005). The council will consider issuing Fixed Penalty Notices to those who do not clean up after their dog in public places.

To assist dog owners, we have installed 182 dedicated dog waste bins and 80 dual purpose litter and dog waste bins across the borough which are emptied on a weekly basis. Please report issues with dog waste bins by filling in our dog bin report form or contacting us. Bags for the collection of dog waste can be purchased from most supermarkets or pet shops.
