Work Experience Policy

1.1 The council recognises the important role a work experience placement can play in helping young people in Welwyn Hatfield Borough achieve their goals through building confidence, learning new skills and applying the knowledge they have gained.

1.2 As an employer within the borough, the council will aim to provide work experience placements as an opportunity for students in local schools and colleges to gain an understanding of the workplace and working life.

1.3 Work experience placements can assist young people in increasing their employability and make more informed career decisions.

1.4 The aim of this guidance is to provide guidelines for managers to help them identify and manage work experience placements.

1.5 All work experience placements within the Council should be arranged in accordance with this guidance. Any work experience requests sent directly to managers should be forwarded to Learning and Development.
