Roles and Responsibilities
4.1 Learning and Development:
- Keep a central record of students undertaking a work experience placement at the Council.
- Retain relevant documentation regarding work experience placements.
- Review the guidance and monitor the process associated with work experience placements.

4.2 Placement Coordinator:
- Identify and manage the work experience placement in compliance with this guidance and process, and in liaison with Learning and Development and with the expectations of the school or college.
- Plan a meaningful work experience opportunity by completing the Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council Work Experience Placement Plan (See Appendix 2)
- Allocate team members who will be available throughout the placement to supervise and mentor the student so that they have dedicated contacts and receive consistent support.
- The coordinator will coordinate the work experience activities, oversee the student’s induction into the team, provide feedback regarding tasks undertaken, and ensure the Work Experience Student Log (See Appendix 5) is completed daily.
- The coordinator will give a tour of the building and detail relevant health and safety information. They will take full responsibility for the safeguarding of the young person.
- Ensure the student is supervised at all times.
- Be the students immediate contact at the Council in case of emergency or any inability of the student to attend the workplace.
- Maintain all relevant records in relation to the work experience placement and the student.
- Notify Learning and Development of any concerns regarding the student.
4.3 School/ College:
- The school / college must give the Council at least 8 weeks’ notice of a student wanting to complete a work placement at the council.
- Request copies of forms or documents about the students work experience placement for the school or colleges own purposes or to share with parents/ guardians, where the school or college deems it relevant.
