Work Experience Policy

Preplacement process

5.1 The Learning and Development team will liaise with service areas to determine whether they can host a work experience placement in the Spring and Summer terms.

5.2 Managers offering to host a work experience placement will meet with the placement coordinator to discuss the duties the student will complete during their placement.

5.3 The Placement Coordinator will then fill out the Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council Work Experience Placement Plan at Appendix 2.

5.4 The Placement Coordinator will undertake a risk assessment of the work experience placement(s) in line with our risk assessment policy and using the Risk Assessment Template.

5.5 The Placement Coordinator will send out the ‘Work Experience Placement Plan’ and ‘Contact Information’ to the student for them to complete and return via email before their first day.

5.6 They will also provide the student with details such as working hours, where the student should go and who they should ask for on their first day, and a work contact number for the school, college or student to use if necessary and any other information they deem relevant.

5.7 The manager of the team(s) in which the student will be working should make the rest of the team aware that they will have a work experience student with them for the designated time.

5.8 The placement coordinator should notify reception of the work experience start and end dates.
